How to Determine Your Wedding Flower Budget

Wondering how to determine your wedding flower budget? You’re in Luck because I have a blog post about it :)

For a wedding with 150 guests in Minnesota, a sufficient budget for wedding flowers typically ranges from $3,500 to $10,000, depending on various factors such as the types of flowers chosen, priority on amount of flowers, the complexity of the arrangements, the size of the bridal party, and the overall wedding style and theme. This budget can cover essential floral elements such as bridal bouquet, bridesmaids' bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, ceremony decor, reception centerpieces and candles, and other miscellaneous floral arrangements. Keep in mind that this is just a general estimate, and couples should carefully consider their specific preferences, priorities, and budget constraints when allocating funds for wedding flowers. Additionally, working closely with a professional florist can help couples maximize their budget and create stunning floral arrangements that enhance the beauty and ambiance of their wedding day. To help you determine your floral budget, I have come up with a system to get you started.

A few things —

  1. You can expect table count to be around 18-20 tables for your 150 wedding.

  2. Think about what is important to you in regards to flowers. If you had to rank reception flowers, personal flowers, and ceremony flowers what would that look like. From there make your floral decisions.

  3. Candles, produce, and other decor are wonderful additions to add to your wedding design if lush flower arrangements aren’t an option.

My system —

I don’t want you to get caught up on this number, but it is helpful for me, so hopefully it may help some of you. I generally say if flowers at your wedding are important to you, estimate spending around $50/guest on flowers. Okay, so where does that come from? Let’s break that down —

Below is an example quote for a client who had 150 guests seated at round tables and their budget was $7,500. This couple opted to not include tear down.

— This wedding ended up with 18 tables plus a harvest style head table. Half of them we used 5 bud vases paired with 3 taper candles and 5 votives and the other half we did standard low and lush centerpieces with 3 pillar candles and 5 votives. They wanted to lush ceremony design and head table.

— If you have a similar situation to this example, but don’t have the same budget, a few ways to lower the investment is to reduce ceremony design, adjust quantities for guest tables, lower candle count, lower bud vases to 3/table instead of 5/table, and adjust size of the low and lush centerpiece to something a bit smaller.

Guest count isn’t the only thing that determines your floral budget, but it has a huge impact. For example if this quote had 75 guests instead of 150, they would have saved $700 alone on table designs.

Minne Floral Co.’s General Budgeting Tips —

$25/guest — You want flowers at your wedding, but they aren’t super important to you.

$50/guest — You love flowers and want them to make an impact.

$75/guest — You want flowers to be a main part of your wedding design.

$100+/guest — Flowers are the most important element to your wedding.
